Cross Country

Kristin Wikstrom is a third-year girls cross country coach at Lakewood Ranch. An alumni of LRHS, Kristin competed all four years as a Varsity runner, winning several invitationals and helping lead the team to two 3A State runner up finishes. As a track athlete, she won several District and Regional titles and capped off her high school career with a state championship in the 800m run.

After high school, Wikstrom went on to run in college at the University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern Miss, Wikstrom competed as a top 3 runner on the Golden Eagles' cross country team, earning All-Conference honors. After finding her niche as a miler on the track, she finished her collegiate career with a school record in the mile.

Throughout college, Kristin pursued an English Education program and fell in love with teaching. Wikstrom now works at LRHS as an English and Creative Writing teacher. She hopes to inspire students and athletes to dream bigger than they ever thought possible.

Coach Bill Zarrella is returning for his second year as head boys cross country coach. Zarrella brings valuable experience in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Zarrella coached at the high school level for 8 years in Massachusetts before moving to Florida to pursue a career in Law Enforcement.

During his time as a Deputy, Zarrella continued coaching and mentoring AAU athletes. Zarrella retired from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office in 2019 after 22 years.

Coach "Z" brings a seasoned perspective and valuable knowledge. He is excited to continue strengthening the program while coaching alongside his daughter, Coach Kristin Wikstrom.
